Gender Representations (Inception) & Visual and Sonic Motifs

Emotional Responses Arousal - In Inception, like most blockbuster films, all the lead characters are attractive; especially a lot more than the average person. With Leonardo Dicaprio, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon Levit leading the roles. Many spectators would choose to see the film just because Leonardo Dicaprio is the main star and he's universally known as a  heartthrob. As well as this, these actors are people to be admired and spectators could emotionally respond with arousal due to this as well. Sympathy - Throughout the film Cobb's troubles are at the forefront of what goes wrong, especially whilst dreaming. Although not all spectators know what it's like to see or dream of a dead loved one or relative they can sympathise with him because through the film its noticeable how much he's struggling so they can feel sorry for him and sympathise with wha he's going through. The Recruitment of Ariadne and The End Sequence

Recruiting Ariadne 1. What is the purpose of this scene besides the obvious recruitment?  The purpose of this scene is to fill in the blanks for the audience, for instance it's like Cobb isn't just taking Ariadne through what's happening he's also taking the spectator through it as well as up to this point most spectators would be slightly confused as to what's happening. 2. How can we tell that Ariadne is slowly realising that she is in a dream from the performance of the actor? We can tell Ariadne is slowly realising she's in a dream as she begins to question it and becomes confused and almost shocked, we notice this through her facial expressions and her mannerisms. 3. How does the audience placement change through the scene?  At the start the audience placement is with Cobb as he seems to be the one in control but within seconds it changes as Ariadne realises it's her dream and she takes control.
