The Recruitment of Ariadne and The End Sequence

Recruiting Ariadne

1. What is the purpose of this scene besides the obvious recruitment?
The purpose of this scene is to fill in the blanks for the audience, for instance it's like Cobb isn't just taking Ariadne through what's happening he's also taking the spectator through it as well as up to this point most spectators would be slightly confused as to what's happening.

2. How can we tell that Ariadne is slowly realising that she is in a dream from the performance of the actor?
We can tell Ariadne is slowly realising she's in a dream as she begins to question it and becomes confused and almost shocked, we notice this through her facial expressions and her mannerisms.

3. How does the audience placement change through the scene?
At the start the audience placement is with Cobb as he seems to be the one in control but within seconds it changes as Ariadne realises it's her dream and she takes control.

The End Sequence

1. How is camerawork used in this sequence? How does the camerawork help to create an active response to this sequence?
The camerawork creates an active response because for especially the airport scene the shot is a tracking shot and it follows Cobb as he leaves the airport, this makes the spectator feel like they're back with Cobb again.

2. How does this end scene link into the conventions of a heist movie?
The end scene links into a heist movie as when they're all leaving the airport they don't notice each other, apart from a slight glance, it's the typical being undercover in a crowded, public place.

3. The ending is uncertain. How does this fit in and how is it a suitable ending for the film?
The ending being uncertain fits into the film because throughout the film uncertainty is what the spectator will most likely feel due to the confusion caused by Inception, the state of going into multiple dreams. It's a suitable ending because even when the film has finished it still keeps the spectator thinking and asking questions.
